Four Nigerians jailed 320 years for robbery
February 01, 2010
Accra, Feb. 1, GNA - Four Nigerians who inflicted cutlass wounds on a lawyer after robbing her of her belongings and cash of GH¢ 150 were on Monday sentenced to 80 years' imprisonment each by an Accra Fast Track High Court.

This was after the court had found them guilty on charges of conspiracy and robbery.

They are Emmanuel Emeka, Samuel Tanko, Promise Emeka and Efanye Osuchuku. The court, however, acquitted and discharged Joseph Chiyioka.

"By the totality of evidence with the exception of Chiyioka Joseph, the accused persons acted together to rob the complainant. The rest of the accused persons are hereby sentenced to 80 years' imprisonment on each count. Sentences are to run concurrently," the court presided over Mr Justice Charles Quist declared.

Mr Paul Asibi Abarigah, a State Attorney who prosecuted, said on February 25, 2006 the convicts invaded the house of the lawyer at West Legon in Accra and inflicted cutlass wounds on her and her family.

The convicts also robbed the complainant of a camera, two mobile phones, jewellery and handbag containing valuable documents including a driver's licence and cash of GH¢ 150.
