Driver's mate in court for accident that killed a boy

Asamankese, Jan. 25, GNA - Amakye Hayford, 26, who was a driver's on February 25 last year when he drove his master's vehicle to kill an 11-year-old boy, has been arraigned before the Asamankese Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty with explanation to taking a motor vehicle without authority, failure to stop and report an accident, careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm resulting in death.

Hayford was remanded in prison custody to re-appear on February 03.

Police Chief Inspector F. K. Nartey said in February last year Hayford went to a washing bay at Suhum where his master had parked his vehicle to be washed.

Without his master's permission, Hayford drove the vehicle and in the process knocked down Larbi Aikins, killing him on the spot.

After the accident, accused bolted from the scene and also failed to report the accident to the police but he handed himself over to the police two weeks later.
