Nii Ashietey commends Greenwich Council for assistance to Ghana

January 14, 2010
Accra , Jan. 14, GNA - Nii Armah Ashietey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, has expressed gratitude to the Greenwich Council (GC) for its outstanding contributions to the development of education, sports and agriculture in the country.

He urged Ghanaians not to be only recipients but endeavour to sustain the relationship.

Nii Ashietey expressed the appreciation when Mr. Councillor John Fahy, Cabinet Member for Culture and Olympics from Greenwich Council led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on him in Accra .

The Regional Minister noted that sports had become a major business in the world and, therefore, sports men and women must be well educated.

Mr. Fahy said the visit was to enable them to share ideas about the rehabilitation of Tema Stadium and link it with the Greenwich Stadium which had a restaurant, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) center and other facilities.

He explained that such facilities would generate more revenue and create jobs for the country. He urged parents and guardians to ensure that they provide the educational needs of their children and wards.

Mr. John Fahy announced that the GC was negotiating with the management of British Council to establish exchange programmes with six schools in Ghana .
