Accra, Jan. 12, GNA - A businessman, who allegedly defrauded a Finland national of GH¢ 20,000 under the pretext of obtaining documents to cover the transportation of 20 kilogrammes of gold to Finland on Tuesday appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra.
John Turkson Mensah pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretences and the court presided over by Mr. D.E.K Daketse admitted him to GH¢ 50,000 bail with three sureties and would re-appear on January 28.
Assistant Superintendant of Police (ASP) A.A Annor said the complainant Mr Ari Salo, lived in Finland but came to Ghana last year to purchase gold dust.
He said Mr. Salo got in touch with Mensah who sent him to the Western Region where they purchased the alleged gold dust from gold miners.
Prosecution said when Mensah and Mr. Salo returned to Accra, Mensah collected GH¢ 20,000 from the complainant to obtain documents to facilitate the transportation of the gold dust to Finland.
He said Mensah took Mr. Salo to an office to secure the documents, but when they returned Mr. Salo realized that the vehicle carrying the gold dust had disappeared.
The prosecution said Mr. Salo suspected foul play and reported the matter to the police.
