EGYA ATTA MILLS YOUR HOLINESS ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH
10.01.2010 LISTEN

Excellent morality and incorruptible stance are no doubt profound ingredients of a good leadership attributes but in politics that alone does not solve the huge expectations of the people. It is against this backdrop that I believe somebody has to make it fervently and fervidly clear to President Atta Mills that Ghanaians are impatiently and expectantly looking for performance and not only the corruption-proof heroism he is exhibiting just to satisfy his own political whims. To let the whole world know how infallible and impeccable you are, is not enough in politics.Recently we all saw in the various media how the whole Ghanaians woke up and felt stupified and bambozzled to hear from supposedly a political mogul like Mr. Kwame Pianim about how President Mills is wearing a bribery-proof suite and therefore no hell-bent witchery or power can permeat or invade through that man's heart as far as bribery is concerned.

But one wonders if refusing to be tainted and soiled with corruption and deciding not to blow the cover of that perpetrator and culprit of such misdemeanour so that, that person can have a field day to keep on infecting and spreading that diabolic disease of "immoral and social swine flu" to others, is stll not wrong and culpable and an offence in the corridors of the law?. Well, this one I leave it to the students of law to make the necessary analysis. Nonetheless. this could be likened to a lady knowing and having evidence of a man who has aids and she has refused to sleep with him but she kept a tight lips to give a leeway to this aids infecting spree to continue with his aids killing carrier to peruse and wade his way through infecting other innocent and unsuspecting ladies. Can such a lady not be blameable and punishable for tacitly and inadvertently consenting to the evil deed of this aids carrier? It is in this vein that it has to be drummed loud and clear to Pianim and President Mills that in the light of his position, its not only morally wrong to accept bribes but its also a hypocrisy to refuse the bribe and let that culprit go scotfree and later come out to claim heroism about it. This is tantamout to creation of breeding ground for more corruption.

Besides, during the just recent yelutide, we again learned from the media that Mr Mill again refused some Xmas gift which to all intents and purposes had been a culture as far as that position is concerned. Well, its seems and sounds as a laudable leadership gesture and even a plus, as well as good example to the corruptible Apostles of Meybey & Johnson, "chichinga" eaters and chelsea tea drinking shenanigans . Nevertheless, President Mill, has to bear in mind that, albeit, the whole African continent is wailing and travailing to see corruption-free leaders in the continent, since it cannot be gainsaid that is the kleptocratic leadership that has been the bane of the impoverishment, bleeding, backwardness and stark poverty that the continent is suffering from, however, that virtue alone does not transform the man on the street and give him a better life and hope in the future. It stands to reason that if a leader like Mills refuses bribes but increases petrol three times in his first year at the office of which from the outset in his campaign he vowed and promised not to do, then its neither here nor there. In politics your leadership holiness should go hand in hand with performance. I mean wonderful policies that transforms and transcends problems, because in politics the populace will remember you by that and not your singular impeccabilities, though its laudable.

It is said that history is the greatest teacher and what history has taught us in other parts of the world which is worthy of reference and emulation and is the fact and a veracity that in politics staunch policies and performance par excellence that brings joy and laughter in the faces of the people is what the people remembers to keep sticking to you even when the odds goes against such a leader in his tenure of office one day. An outstanding and refreshing example was the sexual scandal of President Clinton of USA and the white house intern called Monica Lewinsky between the late 1996 to 1998. I hope those who were of age at that time and for that matter witnessed such an infamy scenario, saw the brohahas and hulabalos that greeted such an ugly spectacle against President Clinton. President Clinton faced herculian attack of lambasting and torture from one Kenneth Star who had wanted Clinton to be impeached. Ironically, It was within that period too that President Clinton stood for the second term election as President. But in the face of all these inglorious news and great weapon for the Republicans against Clinton's Democrats, the people of America unbelievably and incomprehensibly voted for Clinton for the second term as President. Why? The people of America remembered Clinton by his performance, policies and practical leadership with visible results which had boosted and bolsted American Economy. Even though it was seriously a dispicable situation, a disappointment and a humiliation to that high office but the Americans forgave him and gave Clinton a second chance due to his wonderful economic performance..

. Invariably, studies about the Amercan Presidents reveals that President Clinton was one of the best Presidents that had happened to America .It is believed that under his administration USA oversaw a boom of US economy and the country projected a Federal budget surplus for the first time since 1969.It is also believed that President Clinton remained popular with the public throughout his two-terms as President, ending his presidential career with 65% approval rating, the highest end of term approval rating of any president since Dwight D. Eisenhower, (the 34th President Of US). Even the "good book" Makes us to understand in Proverbs 24:26 that " Everybody will kiss the mouth of him who has the right answer". Meaning, we are in the world of unsurmountable problems and therefore everybody is frantically looking for leaders who are problem-solvers, as therapeutic and soothing balm to ease and assuage the burden on their backs, and not only champions of moral rectitude and Phariseic attitude of self adulations. I hope we are not going to wake up one day to hear from Mr.Pianim and his cohorts that the President Mills has again refused amorous "scholarship" from Miss Universe. What the people want to see, hear and practically affect them for better living is TANGIBLE PERFORMANCE, which will make Mr.Atta Mills be remembered 2012, and not self-righteousness, wane, fumbling, lethargic,incohorent.hocus-pocus performance. Sir Winston Churchil, the (British Prime 1951-55) said "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it". God Bless Ghana.
