Adidome-Agorve, V/R, Dec. 31, GNA - Mr Joe Gidisu, Minister of Roads and Highways

on Wednesday cut the sod to commence the construction of two steel bridges over river

Klakpa and Nyidutor in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The bridges estimated to cost 1.7 million Ghana cedis, would be partly funded by the

Netherlands Government.
Mr Gidisu said the construction of the bridges would open up the North Tongu District

for development by linking Kpedzegblo-Agorve and Juapong.

He urged communities in the area to identify themselves with the success of the project by

monitoring its execution and protecting the materials being used against theft.

"Be the first security and watchman at the site so that in a year's time the bridge will be

commissioned for use in its full strength," he said.

He urged contractors involved to deliver the project by its one year deadline and work in

harmony with communities around the site.
Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, reassured people in the area of

government's commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises.

Mr Frank Agbanator, a spokesperson for the beneficiary communities commended

government for the project and expressed the hope that it would be commissioned by

December next year.
He said the construction of the bridges would bring an end to the flooding of the old

bridge and its attendant difficulties.
Mr Agbanator appealed to government for potable water and electricity for Agorve and

other communities in the District.
