A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tain Constituency, Nana Peter Jackson Mensah has cautioned that the party would be doomed if any attempt is made to restrain qualified and loyal members of the party from contesting for positions at the constituency level.
He noted that the party can only see progress if a level playing field was given to all loyal members who have expressed the desire to serve the party. Nana Mensah in a press statement regretted that the party had failed to learn lessons from the unfortunate developments that occurred at constituency level during the parliamentary primaries, compelling some members to go independent with its attendant eventualities which did not augur well for the party.
With particular reference to Tain Constituency, Nana Mensah attributed the defeat of the NPP to the manipulative activities of some “unscrupulous” members in the party which led to the disqualification of one Richard Obour, and eventually resulted in the breaking of the party's front in the constituency.
To him, the change of venue from Nsawkaw to Sunyani for the vetting of the prospective candidates contesting for the various executive positions in the party painted the signs of manipulations on the wall. Mr. Mensah cautioned the executives of the party and the entire members to do away with manipulations which seek to satisfy individual's aspirations at the expense of he whole party.
He maintained, “The interest of the party surpasses that of individuals for it is the party that binds us all members together and it is through oneness that the party can win back power from the ruling NDC party.”
