Boxing at Globe Cinema on Friday

COME Friday, hard-punching boxing prospect, Braimah 'Bukom Banku' Kamoko and another prodigy, Raymond Narh will lead a pack of pugilists from the environs of Ghana's boxing Mecca,

Bukom and elsewhere in a potentially explosive bill to celebrate yet another interesting boxing festival at the Globe Cinema in Accra.

The merciless Bukom Banku mounts the ring against 'Fire Bomber,' Sethegbe Maturin, of Republic of Benin in a West Africa super middleweight title fight to settle scores between the two over who is truly superior.

The Ghanaian, too good for his weight class, has demonstrated some sterling performances in his professional career, pummelling his opponents into total submission with sheer ease almost always within the distance.

That perhaps explains his lack of opponents over the last few months, everyone avoiding his terrible punches, which have the capacity to end one's entire boxing career.

Not even heavier fighters have been able to match his talents in the ring, as the likes of Aloroyi Moyoyo are yet to respond to his baits for a catchweight contest.

Representing such a personality, Kamoko may well be a far too tall an order for the 'Fire Bomber' who is himself much familiar with the Ghanaian boxing terrain, having engaged in many battles in the Ghanaian rings.

While he has not been as devastating as his Ghanaian opponent, the Beninoir has fought hard to earn some amount of respect from the local boxing public. And it is such pride that he hopes to protect on Friday, hence his resolve not to succumb to the Bukom Banku.

The two fighters may well be in their toughest fight, but it will be interesting to witness how Maturin survives against the hard puncher.

Another potentially interesting bout will feature the 'Emperor,' Raymond Narh against Nigeria's Sunday Okolie in an international super featherweight contest over 10 rounds.

Raymond Narh, as one of the main protagonists of the first episode, rode to fame by dethroning the then title holder, Smith Odoom via a 10-round technical knockout in their national and West Africa super featherweight fight. That splendid outing has placed him in a unique class among his peers in the sub-region, and it is that pride that Sunday Okolie, alias 'Red Knife' may attempt to split apart in the ring.

The Nigerian carries a credential as title-holder in his home country as well as being rated fourth to the Commonwealth title in that weight division.

A highly entertaining bout is anticipated with the Ghanaian once again tipped to ride the storm.

Other fights making up the seven-bout bill, carefully put together by Prince and Baseline Promotion Syndicate in association with Sportnet England, will feature 'Golden Boy' Osumanu Akaba squaring up against 'Black Boy' Aminu Turkson in an eight-round featherweight contest.

'Roy Jones Jnr.,' Ishmael Tetteh and 'American Man,' Daniel Adjei will also be at each other's throat in a super welterweight contest over six rounds, while Philip 'Sweet Pea' Kotey will seek to force down bitter pills down the throat of 'Destroyer' Isaac Sackey in their six-round welterweight contest.

'Taxi Driver' Isaac Nettey may attempt to drive Alfred Quaye (Owuo) to his grave in their six-round flyweight contest, while 'Lighting Flash,' Kpakpo Allotey may brighten his chances of rising to the top if he crushes Cote d'Ivoire's national champion, Song Mackintosh in their super featherweight clash over 10 rounds.

For the rates, first ringside will attract ¢50,000; second ringside ¢30,000 and popular stand ¢10,000.
