Germany-born midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng has been told he still has a future with the Ghana national team even though he was left out of the squad for the African Cup of Nations.

The impressive Portsmouth enforcer's application to switch international allegiance to play for the West African has not yet been approved by Fifa.

This means coach Milovan Rajevac was unable to consider him when he was naming his squad for the continental tournament to be held in Angola.

But the Ghana football authorities says he will be considered in future matches once his papers are sorted out by Fifa.

"Boateng was named because we have not received the switch approval from Fifa to enable us play him in the tournament in Angola," Ghana FA spokesman Randy Abbey said.

"We have many matches to come in future starting with friendlies after the Nations Cup and he will be considered in this direction.

"Once his documents are sorted he join the Black Stars so that he can also fight for his place ahead of the 2010 World Cup."

Boateng played for Germany at the junior level but recently announced his decision to play for the country of his dad, Ghana.
