OTTAWA, Dec. 15 (Xinhua/GNA) -- At least 60 vehicles were involved in two major pileups Monday as foggy weather and icy roads made driving especially difficult in Canada's capital Ottawa.
A section of Highway 416 in the city's south end was closed, after the accidents happened. There are no immediate reports of major injuries.
A police spokesman told reporters there were at least two separate, distinguishable pileups, each involving dozens of vehicles.
Some of the vehicles had collided while others were stranded in ditches at different locations.
The weather was foggy and the roads icy. The fog was so thick that visibility was less than six meters, witnesses said.
