Funds allocated for timber conservation
A project on strategies for conservation and sustainable production of native timber species has been allocated funds by the International Tropical Timber Organization, ITTO.
The project was borne out of persistent failure in growth of native plantation species during the early stages of forest plantation attributed to the high incidence of insects and disease pests.
It was undertaken by a team of scientist from the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana. In an address the leader of the research team. Dr. Paul Bonsu called for a policy to promote development of indigenous species plantation in the country.
