DCE appeals to parents to prioritized their children's education

December 08, 2009
Sakyikrom, (E/R), Dec. 08, GNA - Mr George Agyemang Duah, Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, has urged parents, especially farmers to make education of their wards the number one priority.

Addressing a large gathering at the 25th anniversary celebration of the farmers' day at Bamenase near Akwatia, he urged parents to ensure that all their children had access to quality education.

"It is said that a nation that toys with the education of its citizenry toys with its future socio-economic development," he said.

Mr Duah said the government, knowing the importance of education, was putting pragmatic measures in place to ensure that all children of school going-age in Ghana had access to quality education.

He observed that the increase in the capitation grant by 50 percent and the agenda to supply free school uniforms and exercise books to needy children were indication of the government commitment to make education accessible to all.

The DCE therefore appealed to parents, irrespective of their social class, to reciprocate government's effort by sending their children to school.

He said this would make them well positioned to take up the mantle from the adult population in the near future.
