Prof. K. Nsiah Gyabaah

The authorities of the Sunyani Polytechnic are calling on the government as a matter of urgency to construct modern sports facilities for the school, as it prepares to host next year's edition of West African Polytechnic Games (WAPOGA).

Even though the Polytechnic has been given the right to host the games, it is battling with infrastructure.

The Chairman of the Sunyani Polytechnic Council, Nana Dr. Justice Owusu-Ansah

in his address made a passionate appeal to the government at the 4th Congregation of the Polytechnic over the weekend. He stated that as a matter of urgency the government must come to the aid of the Polytechnic and assist in the provision of the needed infrastructure for the games, “I must admit that the sporting infrastructure on our campus must be upgraded as a matter of urgency to ensure successful hosting of the games come August next year,” he disclosed.

WAPOGA is one of the most prestigious sporting events which draw sporting talents from all the Polytechnics in the West Africa sub-region together .WAPOGA games was last hosted by Houphouet Boigny Polytechnic in Yamoussoukro in Ivory Coast.

“All participants and spectators who were at Yamoussoukro would attest to the fact that the success of the games was mainly due to the impressive sporting infrastructure the Ivorian Polytechnic had. It would be a great honour and pride for our country, Brong Ahafo and Sunyani Polytechnic in particular if the games are successfully hosted,” he added.
