GEA Gets New Boss

Mr Alex Frimpong has been appointed the Executive Director of the Ghana Employers Association (GEA). His appointment as the substantive Executive Director of the GEA takes effect from January 1, 2010, a statement signed by the President of the association, Mr Charles A. Coffie, stated.

Mr Frimpong has been occupying the position of Acting Executive Director from November 1, 2009. The new Executive Director joined the association in July 1998 as Industrial Relations Manager and rose through the ranks to the position of Director of Industrial Relations and Administration.

“Alex has over 19 years of hands-on experience in human resource management and industrial relations both in public and private sector organisations,” the statement said.

It added that during the last 10 years, he had been rendering a wide range of professional, advisory and consultancy services to employers on the formulation and implementation of industrial relations strategy, social and labour policies, human resource management, enterprise development, corporate governance, settlement of industrial disputes and compensation management in organisations spanning the entire sectors of the national economy.

It said the new Executive Director also has a deep knowledge, understanding, appreciation and experience of Ghanaian labour legislation, case law systems, labour market policy dynamics and negotiation skills especially in collective bargaining at both enterprise and national levels.

It added that Mr Frimpong had served as special advisor to various organisations involved in industrial disputes with their workers and successfully led client management teams in their negotiations with various unions.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Ghana and a Barrister at Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law.
