Kumasi, Dec. 5, GNA - Twenty-One (21) farmers were on Friday honoured at the Kwabre District for outstanding performance at the 25th Farmers Day Celebration at Adanwomase.
They received Television (TV) sets, fridges, wax prints, spraying machines, bicycles, blenders, machetes, certificates and soap.
Nana Kwabea Abebrese was adjudged the overall District Best Farmer for the year.
The District Chief Executive, Mr Adams Iddisah, said the government was focused on transforming the country's agriculture through mechanisation.
This, he said, was the way forward for increased crop yield and national food security.
He encouraged farmers to work in collaboration with agricultural extension officers so as to acquire modern techniques of farming to boost production.
He paid tribute to farmers for their hard work and sustenance of the national economy.
Mr Abebrese urged Ghanaians to develop a taste for locally produced food such as rice.
He cautioned against bushfires as the nation entered the dry season.
Mr. Samuel Kodzo Semakor, District Director of Agriculture, said the drive to achieve food security could become an illusion if innovative ways were not adopted in production, post-harvest processing and marketing.
