Reading the excuses offered by both the CPS to Governor Chime of Enugu State, Mr. Daniel Nwome, and the Enugu State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chuks

Ugwoke, on why their boss, Governor Sullivan Chime, could not attend what he was supposed to be hosting - the 2009 edition of the Nigerian Media Merit Award held at the Nike Lake Resort Hotel on Saturday November 21, 2009; I was amused.

Going by the report in The Punch November 23, 2009, page 2, the Commissioner and the Chief Press Secretary collaborated that the governor was to grace the occasion but for the advice of his physician; the governor, he said visited Isi Uzo and Enugu East LGAs and was tired. Another aide to the governor had earlier confided in one of the organizers of the event that the governor was poisoned in one of the LGAs he visited.

But the most insulting to the organizers was after waiting from 6p.m that the ceremony was supposed to start till 10p.m when it eventually started as the governor was being awaited, the Commissioner suggested that the event be put off till the next day; of course the organizers felt insulted and rejected not only the suggestion but also that not even the deputy governor and the retinue of Commissioners that were present would be allowed to represent the governor. The event commenced and ended without the governor sending any word of apology.

One is not surprised at the governor's behavior because he does not believe in the media, it was revealed. The State media outfits are his least priority and why he should also exhibit such to the men of the pen is something he seems to have taken too far.
