Seventeen Kwahu West schools obtain 100 per cent in BECE

November 30, 2009
Nkawkaw, Nov. 30, GNA - Seventeen out of 58 Junior High Schools (JHSs) in Kwahu West Municipality, obtained 100 percent in this year's Basic School Certificate Examination (BECE), representing 65 per cent as against 60.8 per cent last year.

However, Ahantanang Municipal Assembly (MA) JHS and Kwahu Jamase No.1 MA JHS obtained zero per cent in the examination in which 24 candidates failed to take part.

This was contained in report on the examination released by the Municipal Directorate of Education to GNA at Nkawkaw on Friday.

It indicated that 724 out of the 2,149 candidates who took part in the BECE this year, failed in all subjects as against 800 candidates last year.

Reasons given for the failure of the candidates included absenteeism during examination, sickness, pregnancy, truancy, dropout, transfers deaths and accidents.

The report asked parents and other stakeholders to take effective measures to improve the standards of education in the municipality.
