Police women charged to take up leadership positions

Police women in the Brong Ahafo Region have been urged to participate in all activities, duties and take up leadership positions when offered the chance.

It has been realized that there is a dearth of leadership qualities amongst the fifty five police women and only one female police officer rank in the Ghana Police Service in the entire Brong Ahafo Region.

In an attempt to improve the situation, Action Aid Ghana and the Regional Police Command have organized a leadership Training Workshop for Police women in Sunyani.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Seth Charles Oteng who opened the workshop noted that in recent times police women have a number of role models to take a cue from.

DCOP Oteng mentioned the former Acting Inspector General of Police Elizabeth Mills-Robertson, the first Female Regional Police commander, Mrs. Agnes Sikanartey, first Female Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Jane Donkor and the first Female ACP and Quarter Master General, Miss Margaret Donkor.

He stressed that they all rose to their positions because of hard work adding that with determination and hardwork the participants could also rise to the top.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Director of Action Aid, Madam Christian Amarchey said hr organisationhas development of women in Leadership positions as a main target and women in the Police service also qualify for such support.

The President of POLAS in Brong Ahafo and Regional Police Finance Officer, DSP Faustina Asare, said the workshop will help improve the output of Female Police Women.
