Education director emphasizes importance of education
THE ASHANTI Regional Director of Education, Mr. Joseph Onyinah has emphasized the importance of education, noting that it is a very Crucial Fundamental Right to every Human Being. He stated that every Human Being is born into the world as a being, but the human part of him is acquired in society through Education.
Speaking at the 10th Anniversary and 1st Speech and Prize Giving Day Celebration of Church Of Christ Senior High School (CRISEC) on the theme - “Education Through Religion: a Panacea for a Holistic Education”, the Education Director noted that the Spiritual, Intellectual, Moral, Social and Physical Endowments of man are nurtured through education and training.
He explained that the acquisition of quality education remains the only tool the Ghanaian needs to enable him survive in today's competitive world, “Education is the catalyst that determines the economic fortunes of nations and quality of life of people,” and pointed out that the acquisition of appropriate technologies, knowledge, practical skills, workplace attitudes and moral values through holistic formal education, leads to the creation of quality human capital on which a nation depends for wealth to support its social programmes.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Ejisu-Juaben, Mr. Mohammed Boakye Agyemang also said the youth of today are vulnerable because they are bombarded with all forms of influences such as foreign culture through videos, music and other media making violence, drugs and pornography, among others.
He, however, added that their parents and teachers, who are also infected with values of today's material world, often fail to give them necessary help which would enable them steer away from the confusing and contradictory current of adolescent life.
The MCE further stressed that many parents see their duty only in respect of providing money for food, clothes, health care and school fees and often fail to provide love, counselling or act as role models against which they can stage their own lives, and above all fail to provide friendship. Disciplinary sanctions too are necessary for those who have not learnt to discipline themselves he noted.
The Headmaster of the School, Mr. Cosmos Owusu Afriyie, said the school was established in 1999 by the Church of Christ, having realized the need for a high and disciplined manpower to break through the challenges of life for the growth of society. From a modest beginning of 15 students and five staff members, the school can now boast of 560 students.
