Thief lynched to death

The Akosombo District Police Command in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region, are investigating a case in which an unidentified man said to be a thief was lynched to death at Apeguso on the early hours of October 29, 2009. The man is said to be about 30 years.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Issah Mohammed Cantona said, the Police was informed about the lynching of a man alleged to be a thief at about 1.30 a.m that day.

According to him on receipt of the information the Police rushed to the scene with some personnel from Akosombo and Frank Dua. ASP Canotona stated that, the man who was hit several times died soon on the arrival at the police station.

He said the body of the deceased has since been deposited at the VRA hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

The Police Commander has reiterated warning to the public not to take the law into their own hands but rather report offenders to the Police for action.

He also appealed to the general public to help identify the dead body. Meanwhile three persons, a woman and two men are assisting investigations.
