Wa, Nov. 18, GNA - Mr. Kale Cezar, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, has appealed to Municipal/District assemblies to consider the use of improved energy forms like solar products as a priority in their development pursuits.
The investment in these improved energy forms, he said, would in the long run free funds for investment in other equally productive sectors of the economy.
Mr. Cezar said this at a workshop organised by the Association of Ghana Solar Industries (AGSI) and funded by the Business Sector Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC) at Wa.
He commended the association for taking up the task of championing the course of mainstreaming improved energy sources like the solar PV systems into the planning and implementation of projects.
Mr Cezar said the northern zone was blessed with the intensity of solar rays but expressed regret that this natural asset which could be harnessed and put into productive use in the form of energy had largely remained untapped.
He appealed to the association to re-orientate the minds of people pertaining to the efficiency of its products and also to fulfil its social responsibility by donating some of its products to charity homes.
Mr. Samuel Adu Asare, Manager of Global Sustainable Energy Solutions (GSES) Ghana Limited, said government would continue to seek the development of solar PV systems to be an integral part of rural electrification projects.
He said it was in this direction that government, in partnership with donors, was promoting solar projects and most of these would be implemented in northern Ghana.
