Two Blind Associations in Ghana to merge
The Ghana Association of the Blind and the Ghana Society for the Blind are to merge by next year. The National Director of the Association, Peter Obeng Asamoah who disclosed this at the third Biennial Volta Regional Convention in Ho noted that the merger has become necessary due to the similarity of the aspirations and goals of the two groups.
He said, the current challenge is the name to be given the new group to help promote the course of the blind and partially sighted. Mr. Asamoah stressed that the challenges the physically challenged are facing are due to the misconceptions by the public about the visually impaired.
The Volta Regional Coordinator of GAB, William Anku noted that in spite discrimination, limited access to education and job opportunities, among others, they are equally capable of contributing to the socio-economic development of the country. The Volta Regional Chairman of the Association, Thomas Malm called on politicians to keep their promises to the physically challenged.
The Senior Principal Investigator of the Volta Regional Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, George Hornuvo called on public and private organizations and the entire citizenry to eschew all forms of discrimination against the blind and partially sighted.
