15-yr Forest & Natural Programme launched
Care International has launched a fifteen year Forest and Natural resource Management Programme in Takoradi. It aims at working with key stakeholders such as development actors within local and national government, private sector development partners and international NGOs.
Launching the programme, the Deputy Director of CARE International, Juvenal Afurika said the programme seeks to reduce poverty and improve the livelihoods of people through sustainable development of Ghana's forest and natural resources.
Juvenal Afurika was not happy at the alarming rate at which Ghana's Natural resources are being depleted and attributed it to mining activities, encroachment in forest reserves and illegal chainsaw operations.
The Omanhene of Essikado, Nana Kobina Nketsia appealed to the authorities in charge to enforce existing laws in the interest of the community members to enable them protects their lands and its natural resources.
