Forum held to harmonise Road-Projects in Greater Accra
A forum to harmonise Road-Projects in the Greater Accra Region has taken place in Accra, with a call on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to ensure proper co-ordination and collaboration to enhance road works in the Region.
Speaking at the forum, the Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii Armah Ashietey asked stakeholders in the Road Sector to adopt “bottom up” approach to planning.
He described as unacceptable the selection of road projects to be done without the involvement of District Assemblies and Regional Coordinating Councils.
The Regional Minister emphasized that transparency and accountability cannot be achieved in the road projects without the involvement of stakeholders.
Nii Armah Ashietey however believes that the time has come for District Assemblies to provide their own resources for the development of roads and other projects in the districts.
In a presentation, an infrastructure specialist of the Urban Transport Project, Ludwig Hesse asked government to continue to invest in the public transport system and empower the private sector in that direction.
