OPASS Old Students Donate Computers To School

The Ofori Panin Senior High School Old Students Caucus of North America has presented 10 computers and their accessories worth $20,000 to their alma mater at Kukurantumi in the East Akyem municipality of the Eastern Region.

The items included one network printer, one Toshiba projector and screen, one network smutch, a set of network cables, toners, installation and training.

Presenting the items, Mr Charles Arthur, the National Organiser of the OPASS Old Students Association, said it was the wish of the association to assist the school to maintain its noble name and development.

He asked the current crop of students to be serious with their studies and improve on the academic and sports records of the school.

The East Akyem Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Kate Agyeman, who received the items on behalf of the school, asked its management to be mindful of the culture of maintenance to prolong the life span of the computers.

Mrs Agyeman said since the students would now have free hand on the Internet, they should carry out research that would be beneficial to their education.

She advised them to avoid the ‘Sakawa’ business of today on the Internet. The Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school, Mr Mensah, said Computer Studies should be included in the school curricular.

He promised to provide the school with furniture for its computer laboratory. In a welcoming address, the Headmaster of the school, Mr Kwaku Kyei Brobbey, recalled the pioneer work of the past board chairman, Mr Emmanuel Appiah Korang, who donated some old computers in 1995 which the school had made judicious use of over the years, adding that they had become obsolete and needed to be refurbished.

He took the opportunity to appeal to old students elsewhere to “come to Macedonia” to help improve the school.
