Small size of bus stops creating problems

Due to small size of the bus stop just after the newly-open Merchant Bank branch when approaching the Adabraka police station from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, is causing inconveniences for customers and staff of the bank, as well as commuters wishing to board commercial vehicles.

Due to this, the security personnel have had to put up signs to stop vehicles from stopping in front of the bank to pick and discharge passengers.

The situation is worse at 5:00 p.m. during working days, when the bus stop is full of commuters waiting to board vehicles to their various destinations.

This compels a lot of them to stand in front of the police station, which is opposite the Merchant Bank.

In an interaction with some drivers, they said that they always encountered problems with the police, because they are forced to pick their passengers in front of the police station.

Other also said there was no enough space for even three vehicles to stop, discharge and pick up passengers.

Yaw Aseidu, a driver, also said the situation becomes worse in the evenings on working days, because the space was so small, and the number of commuters big, which forces them to extend their activities to the frontage of the bank, where security personnel of the bank would also not allow them

“They force the passengers to the other part of the road, almost getting to the police station, and when we park there to pick them, the police say that place is not a bus stop,” he added.

He therefore urged the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, and other appropriate authorities, to enlarge the bus stop to solve the numerous problems they encounter, due to the small size of the bus stop.
