Akyem Oda, Nov. 5, GNA - George Marfo, 14, a final year student of the Akyem Oda Wesley Junior High School (JHS), drowned in the Birim River at Akyem Oda last Saturday.
A family source told the GNA that Marfo after closing from extra classes that day, joined some of his colleagues to go and swim in the swollen river, and got drowned in the process.
Divers who retrieved the body from the river on Monday claimed they saw a cobra coiling around it, but managed to kill the reptile.
Due to the bad nature of the body, Medical Doctors at the Akyem Oda Government Hospital could not carry an autopsy on it and directed that it should be buried immediately that Monday.
Ms Ophelia Koomson, Headmistress of the school, described the deceased as very hard working, committed, punctual, dedicated and academically brilliant.
She said his absence had created a vacuum in the school, adding that, the school and the family had lost a real gem.
Meanwhile the Akyem Oda police had intensified investigations into the incident.
