Tindang (N/R), Nov. 4, GNA – Seventy five (75) communities in the Zabzugu/Tatale District of the Northern Region, have appealed to the Ministry of Energy to hook them to the National Electricity Grid, through the Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP).
The Chief of Tindang, Sali-Naa Mahama made the appeal on behalf of the communities when the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Umar Abdul-Wahab paid a courtesy call on him at his palace at Tindang.
Sali-Naa Mahama said the 75 communities had for a long time been listed to benefit from the SHEP.
He said provision of electricity to the communities would halt the urban- rural migration and promote small-scale industries
Mr Wahab asked the people to live in peace to accelerate development.
He called on parents to send their children to school to benefit from the Capitation Grant and the School Uniform Programme.
The DCE said President John Evans Atta Mills Administration was making efforts to establish agriculture mechanisation centres in every district of the country.
He said this year the Assembly has acquired five tractors for some farmers group in the District.
Mr Wahab said the beneficiary farmers were supposed to use five years to pay for the facility by the instalment.
He said this would go a long way to increase crop production.
