Orphanage Olympic Games Launched

The First West African Orphanage Olympic Games would be held at the Kumasi Sports Stadium from August 27 to September 4.

Miss Kathy Ashong, Chairperson of the Committees of Orphanage International (OIM) announced this at the launch of the games in Accra on Saturday.

She said eight West African countries are expected to take part in the games, aimed at unearthing talents for international competitions and also bringing the needy together to share a common goal.

Miss Ashong named the participating countries as Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal and Cameroon. About 1,200 orphans are expected to take part in the event, which is being organised by OIM.

Miss Ashong called on the well to do in the society to support the ministry to enable it achieve its aims.

Reverend Abraham De Love, Founder of the City of Hope Project in Accra, who chaired the function, called on parents not to neglect their wards but take proper care of them so that they can grow to become responsible adults.
