In every activity there is the central core and in every social setup there is a decision making body. It is said that one cannot make a knob without the thumb. Ghana has of late been recognized worldwide for extraordinary exhibition and performance of events that every country would want to be associated with. This has made Ghana popular and a unique country that people all over the world are yeaning to come to Ghana.
It all started when in a highly competitive election, in 2008, Ghana was unable to elect a President. There was the need to consult a decider for the nation's highest seat. Then like the biblical saying, Dr Afari Gyan asked WHO SHALL I SEND? And the only District/Constituency to answer was Tain which finally handpicked Prof. J E A Mills onto the Throne as the successor to the then President J A Kufuor. This in fact was a bold decision made by Tain at the time when the whole world was ready to witness what has become the order of the day (post election disputes).
Exactly 287 days later, and 282 days into Prof. Mills administration, Tain answered the question “who shall I send?” again, when the nations U-20 team was locked up in a battle between the world's football giants, Brazil in Egypt. This time the Tain boy Emmanuel Agyemang Badu was chosen to lift the flag by rendering the Brazilian goalkeeper useless in Egyptian goal poles. This action by Tain boy Emmanuel Agyemang Badu did not only lift the flag of Ghana high but also made the whole Africa proud by bringing to Africa for the first time this precious World Cup. There are other numerous events through which Tain has made Ghana proud but in other not to waist readers time I will keep to the above two events.
Though Tain has done great things to this country, the question that still harbors the numerous minds of readers is how Tain has benefited from Ghana? Well, to the surprise of Tain and the whole world, Tain is still the District with very, very poor infrastructure- bad road network to the extent that one has to spend over Two hours to travel a distance of Ten Kilometers with the potholes serving as traffic lights. The schools and the facilities for teaching as well as personnel to teach are nothing to write home about. Most of the schools lack teachers etc.
It is also surprising to find that over 85% of the populace lives without electricity. As a result of poor infrastructure and lack of social amenities, the district is left with no other thing than been baptized with poverty. It was once said by General Mosquito, NDC General Secretary and I quote: 'If I prepare palm soup for you and you fail to appreciate my effort, I will also not hesitate to refuse to wash your white shirt that you soil with the palm soup.” It is therefore my fervent hope, and that of everybody in Tain, that the Mills Government and well to do Ghanaians will come to the aid of Tain to encourage Tain to continue to lift the Flag of Ghana high.
