Do Lawyers Go To Hell?

Dear Auntie Betty, I have this strong desire to become a lawyer in future and I am studying very hard towards achieving my ambition.

However, my relatives and friends are of the view that I drop that desire because they believe lawyers go to hell. I wonder how this can be true but since they say that majority carries the vote, I am forced to listen to them. Auntie, I am confused.

Dear Komla, It is not true that a particular category of people will go to hell because of their profession.

As Christians, we believe that we should always tell the truth no matter the consequence but some people believe that sometimes lawyers know their clients are guilty but use some pitfalls in the law or the case to get their clients free.

Since lawyers in a case can be for, or against the accused, one party will always be embittered when it does not go in their favour. Lawyers have the right to defend anyone they think has a good case.

Just like any profession, there may be some bad people among them while majority may be disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties.

So if you really love that profession and can study to become one I suggest you stay on course and live your dream. And when you do become a lawyer make sure you do your best to uphold your christian principles and virtues. All the best.
