Mining companies asked to be transparent

Mining Companies in the country have been asked to be transparent in the payment of royalties.  This came up when some officials from Anglo Gold Ashanti Iduapriem and some Foreign Researchers paid a working visit to GBC's Regional FM Station, Twin City Radio in Sekondi.

The Head of the team, Luc Zandliet said the aim of the visit was to interact with the media to know from their perspective how people in the mining area perceive mining activities.

Mr. Zandliet said this is because, there have been  negative report about mining in Ghana.  It came out that most people especially those in the mining areas think that the industry is destroying and displacing them even though they do not benefit directly from the proceeds.

The Regional Director of the GBC, James Adeaba stressed the need for mining companies to collaborate with stakeholder organizations such as the Ghana Chamber of Mines, EPA, CHRAJ, MMDA's and other agencies to ensure transparency and efficiency in their operations.

He also asked them to partner with the media for effective information flow to the public.
