  Wed, 30 Sep 2009

Sawireso (B/A), Sept. 30, GNA – The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General's Office have been urged to organise periodic seminars to educate traditional rulers on methods of administering justice through arbitration.

Nana Agyemang-Duah, chief of New-Sawireso in Asunafo South District in the Brong Ahafo Region, who made the call, said that the administration of justice through arbitration would help ease the congestion of civil cases in the country's courts.

The chief who was speaking at a meeting organised for 15 sub-chiefs in the area, suggested that traditional councils should be involved in the organisation of the seminars, adding “Some judgments at arbitration leave much to be desired hence the need to organise orientation courses for the chiefs”.

Nana Agyemang-Duah urged chiefs to refrain from handling criminal cases and remain neutral and fair in arbitrations.

He asked the chiefs to impose reasonable fines on those found guilty in civil cases and to take record of cases they handle.

Nana Agyemang-Duah appealed to resident citizens of New-Sawireso and those abroad to contribute to the construction of the new palace in the area.

In another development, Nana Kwasi Baffour Bosomprah, Omanhene of Goaso Traditional Area in Asunafo North Municipality, expressed concern about the rate at which schoolchildren attended video shows and other social functions instead of studying and appealed to assemblies to enact bye-laws to solve the problem.

He called on the Ghana Education Service to organize monthly examinations for final year students to adequately prepare them for their final external examinations.

Nana Bosomprah told GNA in Goaso that there was the need for serious efforts to be taken to improve the standards of education in deprived communities in the region.
