Accra, Sept. 30, GNA – Superintendent Mrs Debora Addison-Campbell, Deputy Commander of the National Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police, has said the high rate of road accidents in Ghana could be attributed to non-compliance of simple basic driving regulations.
She told the GNA at the MTTU headquarters in an interview at the weekend that, the problems would still persist on the roads until drivers realise that it was important to observe the basic rules in driving.
Superintendent Debora Campbell said the police can take all measures to stem the rate of accidents on the roads, but its success rested in the hands of the drivers themselves.
“It is also important that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) enforces its laws that make it an offence to sell alcoholic drinks at all lorry parks in the city.
She expressed her condolences to the families the young students, who lost their lives at Apenkwa recently and urged members of the GPRTU to exercise caution, to avert similar occurrences in the future.
“I wish to take this opportunity to encourage the social partners and other stakeholders to collaborative to avoid the unfortunate accidents on our roads.
