The youth of James Town and its environs can now heave a sigh of relief, as IntEnt Ghana is setting up an incubation centre to help the youth develop entrepreneurial skills.
IntEnt Ghana is non-governmental and non profit-making organisation which selects and assists the youth in attaining their goals as entrepreneurs.
James Town has a high rate of unemployment as the relocation of the harbour from Accra to Tema has had a great impact on the people.
With the move of the fishing harbour, the people of Ga Mashie are still counting their losses with most of the indigenes unemployed.
Bert Spenkelink, Director and Programes Coordinator, said the project, dubbed “REMADE” (Returning Enterprises Migrants Adding Employment), was formed with the objective to strengthen the link between migration and development.
Mr. Spenkelink said fishing and fishmongering, which is the major occupation of the people of Ga Mashie, can be enhanced to create more avenues for the teeming unemployed youth of the area.
Nii Nortey Dua, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, launching the project, said the National Youth Employment Programme would be restructured with different modules to absorb more of the youth.
He said IntEnt Ghana was targeting Ghanaians in the Diaspora to help in establishing enterprises in the country to alleviate poverty in areas such as Ga Mashie.
Nii Nortey Dua admonished the youth that the incubation centre, which would be sited in the Usher Fort, and all who would be enrolled, that they should take the lessons seriously.
