Let’s support WAEC to combat exam malpractices –urges ADESUA

A multimedia educational support services organization, Adesua Global has commended the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) for publishing the names and pictures of students allegedly involved in examination malpractice in the recent Senior High School examinations. “This act though seen by others including some parents as harsh is very appropriate and indicates commitment of the examining council's intention to combat exams malpractices which is seemingly becoming a norm and tarnishing the image of the council”, stated the General Manager, Daniel Mantey.

He noted that this act of WAEC is an indirect way of calling on all stakeholders to consider a holistic approach to solving the issue instead of leaving it on WAEC which in this case has its credibility at stake. With this measure, parents and guardians will now play active roles in the fight against examination malpractices which had hitherto been left at the doorstep of WAEC.

Admittedly, the interest this action has generated in the public domain is enough to serve as a check or deterrent to prospective examination fraudsters. In a press statement issued and signed by the General Manager, he observed that since parents as well as the educational institutions and the society as a whole will not like to be given such a bad publicity, they will all do their parts to counsel candidates and help in fighting this menace.

The interest of majority of the students as well as parents or guardians in this case is paramount and should be protected against the few recalcitrant ones. “Article 28 Section 1 (d) of the constitution states that children and young person's receive special protection against exposure to physical and moral hazards. We think the action of WAEC will be in the interest of the majority of the children as in protecting majority of the prospective candidates from moral hazard of dishonesty not forgetting the fact that these children are our future leaders who will take up leadership roles in governing this country some years to come”, explained the General Manager Daniel Mantey.

He challenged children's rights activist to focus on the larger picture taking into consideration how this action of WAEC will help curtail such dishonest attitudes of the youth and the positive impact it will have on their future endeavours instead of the few recalcitrant candidates that have been punished.
