Ghana striker maintained his good scvoring form in France this season as he scored twice for Rennes to beat Grenoble 4-0 in a highly-charged game on Saturday night.
Rennes' victory over Grenoble was twice interrupted by crowd trouble, with both sets of players leaving the field in the second half.
Missiles were launched onto the pitch and flares set off to mar a match which the visiting side won at a canter.
Gyan scored twice, the first after only 27 seconds, with Kader Mangane and Sylvain Marveaux also on target, but the post-match focus is sure to be on the disturbances in the stands.
The opening goal came before most players had touched the ball, with Gyan picking up on a mistake in the home defence to steal in and shoot past Jody Viviani.
It was 2-0 after only seven minutes. Ismael Bangoura powered down the right before releasing a shot which Viviani could only punch back towards Marveaux, who rolled the ball in with ease.
With 19 minutes gone it was three, Marveaux taking the roll of creator. He struck a free-kick at goal which Viviani was again unable to hold, this time spilling the ball in front of Mangane, who had the simplest of finishes.
Play briefly stopped as home fans started to shower the pitch with missiles, but half-time was reached without major incident.
Worse was to come after Gyan won and scored a penalty in the 61st minute, a decision awarded for a foul by Zoran Rendulic.
Nine minutes later the players and officials were forced from the pitch by further trouble, staying off for 10 minutes before returning to play out the remainder in muted fashion.
Gyan scoring form is a boost for the Black Stars as they prepare for their second appearance at the World Cup.
