Osagyefo Youth Movement Advocates Early CPP Congress

Osagyefo Youth Movement, a youth group within the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has called for an early congress to elect a new leadership to reorganise the party.

According to the group, the leadership of the party must hunt for dedicated youth who are interested in the welfare of the party, constitute them as a “task force” and assign them the duty of organising proper party elections at the polling station through to the constituency and to the regional levels.

This, the group said, must culminate in a national delegates congress as soon as possible to elect the National Executives of the party.

A statement signed by the acting Co-ordinator of the movement, Mr Amankwah Appiah, said before then, “It is the onerous task of the present leadership, with the support of the Council of Elders, to hunt for talents within the party who have the experience, and are committed and devoted to the cause of the CPP” to constitute the task force.

It said the present leadership of the CPP must also undertake a real self-assessment and accept the truth that a lack of cohesion among them had resulted in their inability to put the CPP on a sound footing.

This has indeed made the CPP unattractive to youth. The current situation, therefore, called for a dynamic leadership that should articulate the new order in the CPP. It said the CPP needed committed men and women who could dream and nurture their dreams into practicality.

“Men and Women who do not look for excuses at the least opportunity and who will be honest, faithful and devoted to the office entrusted in their care.

In view of this, there is the need for members of the party, especially the rank and file, to exercise restraint and circumspection towards the anticipated party executives congress sometime next year, as a little impatience can at times spoil great plans,” the statement said.

It said what the CPP needed was loyalty, discipline, unity and organisation, because without these four pillars, the CPP could never become a successful and attractive party.

It was for this reason that the Osgyefo Youth Movement was calling on all members of the CPP to unite and allow for the regeneration of Nkrumaism in Ghana to ensue, the group pointed out.

“In this liberation crusade to save the CPP and Ghana as a whole, we all need each other’s help, no matter what profession or social status we belong.

The common will to revive the CPP and build a Ghanaian society reminiscent of the First Republic of Ghana is imperative,” it said.

The statement explained that the current crisis in the CPP’’s development called for critical thinking regarding the conduct of the present leadership of the party and their relationship with the rank and file.

It said the CPP could overcome these obstacles only when a cohesive leadership and the rank and file were able to plan their communication system in concert and this would only be possible when suspicion, spitefulness, self-centredness, mistrust and inordinate ambitions had been done away with.

“As human beings, we may have our differences and may argue, criticise and even quarrel over certain issues but we should do so only on the grounds of arguments and constructive criticisms.

In the final analysis, we should always find an area of concurrence in which together we co-operate in the supreme interest of our party,” the statement said.

It said currently, the CPP was faced with the pressing problem of organisation for the solution of which all available resources, both human and otherwise, must be mobilised.
