Nkoranza (B/A), Sept. 1, GNA - Mr. Mac Lawrence Ahiadu, Nkoranza South District Director of Agricultural, has advised farmers to seek technical advice from agricultural extension agents to increase their yield.

He explained that since the extension officers had the knowledge and skills in crop cultivation and the application of inputs, the farmers needed to contact them for advice to improve their farming activities.

Mr. Ahiadu was briefing members of the District Assembly about the activities of his outfit at the Assembly's first ordinary meeting for the year at Nkoranza.

The district director urged the agricultural officers to visit the farmers on their farms to offer support and encouragement to boost their morale and improve on their know-how.

He asked the Assembly Members to educate farmers in their areas to register with the agricultural extension services to enable the government to initiate programmes to enhance the agricultural sector.

Mr. Ahiadu said his outfit was conducting the necessary surveillance for the detection and control of army worms that usually destroy maize plants between September and October each year, and called on the farmers to report any signs of the pest to his office.

The district director said he was arranging for adequate fertilizer coupons for farmers in the area towards increased maize production.
