The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS) has secured the ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification, which is one of the world's most recognized accreditation for information protection and security.

It thus becomes the first payment systems provider in Africa to be awarded 15027001certification.

The certification confirms that GhIPSS has addressed, implemented and controlled the security of its information.

It also confirms that GhIPSS' management of information and systems are secured to ensure the integrity of data sent out and received and would significantly limit security and privacy breaches.

It also signifies that relevant laws and regulations are being complied with, especially in line with GhIPSS' mandate of developing and implementing an effective payment system in the country.

The benefits include an increase in overall organizational efficiency and operational performance and the minimization of internal and external risks to business continuity.

The independent assessment was carried out by UK-based, Lloyds Register Quality Assurance; one of the few companies in the world that performs ISO 27001 audits.

ISO 27001 is the only auditable international standard which defines requirements that ensures efficient security, controls and institutes a certified organization.

Additionally, GhIPSS would maintain ISO 27001 certification and would require annual reviews and a three year re-certification in the continual scrutiny of its information security and management system in a manner that would provide confidence to its clients. By this feat, GhIPSS has joined other platform providers globally including CQR Payment Solutions of Austria, Link Interchange Network Limited of the UK, Paypoint Network Limited of the UK, Premier Bankcard of the U.S, among others.
