Listen to Kufuor`s wise advice…Nana Addo tells NPP supporters

NANA ADDO Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2008 Presidential candidate of the main opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged members of the “Elephant family” to adhere to the wise counselling of former President Kufuor to avoid factionalism in the party.

Whilst addressing the special delegates' conference in Accra recently, the former President admonished party faithful to desist from factionalism and division. He therefore called for unity as a panacea for winning the hearts and minds of Ghanaians.

According to Nana Addo, the advice of Mr. Kufuor was apt and in the right direction, saying “The excellent advice of President Kufuor that we should avoid all forms of factionalism in the party should be taken seriously. United we stand, divided we fall,” he said.

In a statement he issued after the party's extraordinary conference last Saturday to amend various parts of the party's constitution, Akufo-Addo said “The fact that the conference endorsed the will of the overwhelming majority of our members to have a greater say and participation in the running of the party, it is a significant development that will stand us in good stead for the future.”

According to him, it was now time for all party members – “whether or not we supported the amendment proposals, to rally together to ensure their successful implementation.”

Nana Akufo-Addo, the former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General mocked critics of the NPP who predicted a break up of the party prior to the conference. He said, contrary to the break-up predictions, the party has become more formidable than ever.

“The conduct and the outcome of the conference has rather strengthened the coherence and image of the NPP. Our critics, who were hoping for a break -up of the party have been confounded.

The democratic credentials of the party, which have made it the toast of our nation and indeed all of Africa, have been reinforced by the events of the conference,” he noted.

Nana Addo, one of the front line and obvious presidential candidates of the NPP noted that 1400 delegates, who came from all over the country to deliberate on the constitutional amendments proposals, should be congratulated for their conduct before, during and after the debate and votes.

He said with such a dedicated corps of party faithful and with hard work, the NPP shall return to government in 2012 to continue with the process of good governance that the President Kufuor led administration demonstrated to the people during the first period of NPP rule.
