Tema, Aug. 28, GNA - The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested Sakarato Miniru, a 23-year-old alleged criminal, who terrorised residents of Tema and Ashaiman.
Miniru had been on the police wanted list for engaging in a number of armed robberies.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Augustine Gyening, Tema Regional Police Commander, told a press conference that the Police had trailed the suspect for more than one month, before arresting him on August 26 in Ashaiman at about 2200 hours.
He noted that Miniru was a member of the gang, which include one Ali, another suspected criminal, who received Presidential pardon recently.
The Commander said the Miniru and Ali were believed to be training young boys in Ashaiman in armed robbery.
The trainees, he indicated, include the 22 suspected criminals arrested at Gorm, near Ada , a fortnight ago.
He said even though the suspect, claimed that hailed from Benin , Police Intelligence revealed that he was a citizen from Northern Togo .
ACP Gyening said a Police team dispatched who went to Miniru's residence for a search, noticed that members of his team had broken into his room and made away with weapons which were used for their operations.
He said a door lock and a mirror which had the inscription, "more hating, more money, more problem for you, hate me more" on them were retrieved from the residence.
ACP Gyening appealed to the public to volunteer information on Ali and other members of the syndicate to enable the Police to rid the Metropolis of criminals.
He said Miniru would be paraded for public identification to enable the Police to gather more information about him, for his prosecution.
