HONOURABLE ISAAC Osei, the Member of Parliament for Subin constituency, has urged party members to unite and work towards winning back power in 2012. According to him, the best way to ensure success in 2012 is to start now, and not wait till 2012.

Addressing Subin constituents at the second Town Hall meeting in Kumasi yesterday, during which the constituents were briefed on proceedings of Parliament for the past three months. The MP said the fundamental problem currently confronting the NPP was not that of leadership, saying the most important thing for the NPP to address is to unite and strengthen party structures to enhance the chances of winning Election 2012.

The MP said the party was confronted with various elections at the polling station, as well as constituency and regional levels, besides the Special National Congress, and called on the party hierarchy to concentrate on building party structures which he said was more important than the choice of a presidential candidate.

Mr. Osei declined to comment on any ambition that he might harbour for the Presidential slot, saying he would make his intentions known at the appropriate time. “We don't talk about leadership when our teeming supporters are hurting, besides the series of elections pending at the polling stations, constituency, regional and national levels,” he said.

According to him, the real issue is winning back power which all well meaning NPP members should be thinking about, instead of about who leads the party, noting that once the party is built on good structures then anybody the party puts up as a candidate would have good opportunity to become President.

MP Osei also condemned the partisanship in employment and the reported massive dismissal of cocoa spraying gangs, and suggested the expansion in various programmes - particularly the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to ensure increase in recruitment of more personnel.

Special guests at the forum included Hon. Catherine Afeku, MP for Evalue Gwira, Hon. Kobena Darko Mensah, MP for Takoradi and Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, MP for Manhyia. They all addressed the constituents on issues relating to the economy, health, education employment and governance in general.
