THE GREATER Accra Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nii Djamah Vanderpuye, has stated that the victory of the NDC has come to end corruption, misrule and human rights violations in the country.
“The victory of the NDC has come to put an end to the eight years misrule of the New Patriotic Party (NPP); eight years human rights violations and abuses, and to also end corruption in the country,” he said.
According to him, many negative things, including acts of corruption, happened under Kufuor government, which would not be repeated by the Atta Mills government.
Nii Vanderpuye was speaking at a ceremony where the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Armah Ashitey, honoured his polling station agents who contributed to the victory of the party.
He noted that the desire of every Ghanaian, including party activists, would be met by the government.
He however appealed for time to enable the Atta Mills government put things in place. To him, “the victory for 2012 has started today.”
The Regional Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Osu Klorley constituency, Nii Armah Ashitey, clad in white shirt with NDC symbols, condemned attempts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ridicule the ruling government for failing to organise a victory rally.
“The NPP has nothing to do. We have a lot of responsibility for Ghanaians, and the fact that we delayed the victory celebration, does not mean that we cannot. We are committed to developing the nation,” he said.
He said the perennial flooding that had become a ritual in the nation, was disheartening. According to him, the flood was attributable to the actions of the citizenry, and said, “Let us understand that there is the need for change, and Accra must be changed to become a model for all,” he said.
Nii Ashittey, who received a lot of support from some legislators, municipal and district chief executives, stated that the government was doing everything possible to make Accra a modern city, and urged Ghanaians to cooperate with the government when they start demolishing structures that have been put on waterways.
The Regional Minister, after commending the party foot-soldiers, polling station executives, for their dedication and commitment towards the victory of the NDC, stressed that he would do everything to teach his people how to fish, and also to help to provide the needed assistance to his constituents.
He disclosed that plans were far advanced to provide the needed assistance to brilliant but needy students within his constituency.
