THE Adontihene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Nkrumah I, has reminded President Mills not to forget the sacrifice some of them made to help him secure victory in the 2008 election.
Speaking at a durbar held in honour of the President at Sefwi Wiawso on Wednesday, Nana Kwame Nkrumah said, “we chiefs have suffered for you, and we don't expect you to let our suffering go in vain.”
Consequently, he tasked the President to reciprocate the gesture by making sure that bad roads in the area were re-shaped.
“You have seen our poor roads, and we need not remind you about that,” he said.
Nana Kwame Nkrumah also called on the President to initiate the process to review portions of the constitution that guarantee freedom of expression.
According to the Chief, the manner in which some Ghanaians speak against their leaders was worrisome, hence his call for the review. The Chief further tasked the President to turn the Sefwi Wiawso Assembly into a municipal one, since they had over the years been loyal to the ruling government.
Responding, President Mills promised the chiefs and people of Sefwi that the country's resources would be shared equally, and that the people of Sefwi would get their share of the cake.
He called for total unity in order to push the development of the country forward.
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr. Joe Gidisu, euphemistically told the chiefs, “Sefwi has molded the eyes and ears of NDC over the years, even in opposition, and the government would reciprocate the gesture.”
He promised that the problem of their roads would be addressed.
