Gender mainstreaming enhances Economic growth - Minister

The Minister for Women and Children's Affairs Akua Sena Dansua says, for Ghana to achieve faster economic growth and development, there is the need to ensure that gender is mainstreamed into the national development process, since it is recognized as a global development strategy.  This was contained in a speech read on her behalf at the opening of a two-day training workshop on gender mainstreaming and gender assessment tools. 

Miss Sena Dansua explained that gender mainstreaming focuses on efficient ways by which public resources are distributed to ensure fairness and equity.  This she said benefits both men and women, boys and girls equally for accelerated development.  She noted that government is committed to the advancement of women as well as ensuring the survival, development and the participation of children in important activities in the country.   

She expressed gratitude to the Governance Reform Transition Project for sponsoring the workshop and the office of Head of the Civil Service for their positive collaboration.   

A Director at the International Desk of the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs, Mariam Tackie gender mainstreaming is necessary because it is a strategy to ensure that the needs of gender are factored in the policies of the country as well as ensuring that everyone's right is protected.
