Government Committed To Campaign Promises

The Minister for Transport, Mr Mike Hammah, has assured the chiefs and people of Yeji in the Pru District of the Brong Ahafo Region, of Government's commitment on fulfilling its campaign promises by ensuring that every town and village get its share of the national cake.

Mr Hammah was addressing the Pru District Assembly Members and Heads of Government Organisations, the Paramount Chief of Yeji and his Elders, the Paramount Chief of Konkoma and the people at a separate gathering during a working visit to Yeji with his Deputy Mrs Dzifa Aku Attivor, to acquaint themselves with the operations of ferries at Yeji on the Volta Lake.

He said the President believes that an opened, transparent, accountable and a honest government is what people have confidence and trust in.

According to him, it is very important to constantly get in touch with the people at the grassroot to interact with, to find out the challenges confronting them so that together solutions will be found.

Mr Hammah explained that as a social democratic government, the people are the pivot in the helm of affairs, saying Ghana's development must involve all and called for unity among Ghanaians so together a better Ghana can be built.

He urged parents in the area to endeavour to send their children to school and stop sending them to go sailing. He therefore, asked the district assembly to enact bye laws to deal with perpetrators and enforce the law on child trafficking.

The Pru District Chief Executive, Mr Masawudu Mohammed, appealed to the Minister to provide the district with a boat to augment the work of the ferry in any eventuality, the boat can be used to save lives and properties.

He also appealed to the Minister to increase the police personnel in the district so they can take care of petty crimes that are often committed along the lake.

The Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area, Pemampem Yaw Kagbrese V, commended Ghanaians for ensuring peace during the 2008 elections. He said 'without peace President Obama of the United State of America will not have come to Ghana. Democracy has made Ghana proud.'

On his part, Paramount Chief of Konkoma, appealed to the Minister to use the old 31st December Movement Centre for a clinic to reduce child mortality in the area.
