Transport Minister Tours VLTC

The Minister for Transport, Mr Mike Hammah and his Deputy, Mrs Dzifa Aku Attivor, have toured the Volta Lake Transport Company (VLTC) at Akosombo in the Eastern Region to acquaint themselves with the company's operations and ascertain challenges confronting them.

Addressing Management and Staff of VLTC at a Mini Durbar at Akosombo, Mr Hammah called for re-orientation of the public service to break the bureaucracy that exists in the service in order to attract investors into the country, since that system is not business friendly.

The Minister observed that the pillars of a nation building rests on the shoulders of all and it is important for all to show serious commitment in their dealings to reflect positively on the economic growth of the country.

He said the Government upholds the philosophy of social democracy where the people are placed at the centre of affairs, the national cake distributed equitably and the people determine the direction of the country together to move the country forward.

Mr Hammah said Government is committed in ensuring that Ghana becomes a middle earning income by the year 2020 where all can live a decent life and that it is important to consciously and aggressively create an enabling environment to attract direct foreign investors into the country to achieve the President's vision.

He said Government attaches importance to the transport sector and will continue to improve and provide the necessary resources for safe, efficient and reliable transport sector in the country.

Mr Hammah challenged the workers to put up their best with the little resources available, saying 'we all have a role to play because the transport sector plays a very critical role in ensuring the betterment of the economy in the country.'

On her part, Mrs Attivor, urged the workers to see themselves as public servants and bury their political differences to support the Government of the day.

The Managing Director of VLTC, Mr Akwasi Sarpong, assured the Minister that the VLTC will ensure that lives and properties are protected by making sure that the ferries are always safe to embark on and disembark a journey.

He however appealed to the Minister to support the company in order to improve its public service.
