Truck runs over pupil

Hohoe, July 18, GNA- Prince Ntire, a 10 year-old pupil of Likpe-Agbozume Roman Catholic School was killed last Friday, July 10, when a truck run over him.

The deceased and his colleagues boarded the vehicle unknown to the driver.

The 49- year-old driver, Edward Yao Domenya, said he went to Likpe-Agbozume to load firewood when the incident occurred.

He said he was heading from the direction of the school to the main Likpe-Agbozume-Hohoe road when he heard the shouts of the remaining children on board the vehicle, compelled him to stop.

Mr Domenya said he was dumbfounded when he noticed that the rear right tyre of the truck had run over the boy, killing him instantly, at about 1230 hours on that day.

Mr Maurice Lumor, Police Officer at the Hohoe Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, who corroborated the incident, said Domenya was arrested and later granted Police inquiry bail, to report daily until the case was determined.

He said the truck had been impounded and the suspect was likely to be charged for careless driving and inconsiderately causing harm, when investigations were concluded.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Hohoe Municipal hospital awaiting autopsy.
