Work has begun on the rehabilitation of the four Kilometer Oblogo-Weija road in Accra to enhance the movement of people, goods and services in the area.

The project is being financed by the Akan community at Weija, from its own resources as its contribution to the development of the area.

In the past decade, six contractors have been engaged to work on the road but none have been able to complete it for inexplicable reasons.

The leader of the Akan community, Mr Boakye Yiadom, told the Daily Graphic that all attempts by the chiefs and elders of Weija to construct the road proved futile hence efforts to rehabilitate the road through self help.

Mr Yiadom , who is a former assembly member of Weija, said during his tenure as the assembly member for the area, he sent several petitions to institutions to help construct the road but to no avail.

The secretary of the Akan community, Elder Daniel Ofori Preko, said the community has already spent over 1,000 Ghanaian cedis on the first phase of the construction.
